30 Things To Do While Staying Safe at Home

Try some of these fun activities to keep your family entertained while we all do our part to stay safe at home!

Family Room:

  • Dust off that instrument you have lying around and start playing or teach someone else in your house how to play.
  • Create an indoor scavenger hunt for your kids.
  • Try a family game/challenge to complete tasks with your non-dominant hand.
  • Teach your pet new tricks.
  • Have a family board game tournament.
  • Make a cardboard or blanket fort with your kids.
  • Re-read one of the books on your shelf or get a free book or audiobook online from the public library.

Yard:

  • Weed your garden.
  • Plant flowers or prepare a new garden bed.
  • Take time to give your yard a special treatment with things you might already have in your garage – mow and edge grass, fertilize, pressure wash your deck, clean outdoor furniture, etc.
  • Spend some time relaxing in the yard playing games with family.
  • Set up a campsite for the whole family and spend the night toasting marshmallows by a fire.

Garage/Basement:

  • Try some indoor workouts that require minimal equipment. You can find a YouTube video to guide you.
    • Get creative for added weight – water jugs, a backpack full of books, cinderblocks/bricks, etc.
    • Use a broomstick in place of a barbell for movements like squats and focus on form and repetitions rather than weight.
  • Try a new form of fitness you’ve never explored to keep it interesting – yoga, Pilates, running, biking, HIIT training, etc. YouTube is also a great source for instructional videos to get you started.
  • Work on your flexibility by spending time stretching each day.

Kitchen:

  • Organize your pantry and fridge and toss out all expired foods.
  • Put all spices in alphabetical order.
  • Thumb through your recipe books and find new things to cook.

  • Make sure all your over-the-counter cold and flu medications are up to date.

Media room:

  • Pick a show from your childhood and re-watch it with your kids.
  • Use a free video chat service to connect with friends or other family members and come up with activities to do virtually together – play an online game, start a music playlist or create of list of shows/movies to watch at the same time.
