Trick or Treating Children

3 Tips for a Safe Halloween

Halloween night brings out all the miniature ghouls, goblins, princesses and superheroes in your neighborhood, and can be a fun time for the whole family. Stay safe with these sensible safety tips!

Light the Way

With Halloween traditionally being associated with darkness and things that go bump in the night, it’s important to keep in mind the safety of your family and visitors on this spooky night. To help the kids and parents coming to your door, be sure to have adequate ground lighting to make your path visible to those seeking tricks or treats. Ask one of your neighbors to come over and pay special attention to see if they have any difficulties getting to your door. Be sure to move large planters or other items that someone might trip on or bump into. A little extra lighting can go a long way.

Avoid Open Flames

While jack-o’-lanterns are a Halloween staple, when misused, they can cause safety hazards for trick-or-treaters visiting your home. Protect your home and visitors by choosing a safe and easy alternative to a real candle–a battery-powered candle. They look great and can be reused year after year!

Keep Your Pets Safe

Halloween can be a particularly dangerous time for your beloved furry friends. Your front door will be opening frequently throughout the night, giving your pet the chance to escape from the safety of your home. Also, unusual sights and sounds can cause pets to become agitated and act out. To keep your Halloween visitors and your pets safe, it is recommended that you keep your pet in a secured area away from the Halloween festivities
